SCOPE
Perched among the rainforest canopy of Tamborine Mountain, The Tamborine is a 23-room boutique hotel, renovated from a 1970’s motel. The brief asked for something the region had never quite seen: a property with a genuine point of view. A place that felt rooted in its landscape without resorting to the expected.
DW•CO Studio was engaged to develop the full brand identity and interior direction — from naming and visual language through to spatial concept, material palette and guest experience touchpoints. Everything was designed together, from the start.
OVERVIEW
THE WORK
The project began with positioning. Before any visual decisions were made, we defined what the hotel believed in, who it was for, and what a guest should feel the moment they arrived. That thinking became the foundation for every decision that followed — spatial, material and visual.
The identity was built around a distinctive logotype and the peacock - which was a known feature of the previous motel. Colour was drawn directly from the site — earthy tones relating directly to the greenery and earth — with typography chosen for character. The system extended across guest stationery, menus, signage, digital assets and a photography art direction for launch.
The interior concept grew from the same root as the brand. Natural, tactile materials — white-washed plywood, bronze and natural fabrics — were selected for their ability to age gracefully. Lighting was treated as a material in its own right. FF&E was sourced from local suppliers, favouring pieces with a story of their own. Brand touchpoints were woven into the built environment throughout, so the identity felt inherent rather than applied.
The project was delivered across 18 months in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, with brand and interior workstreams running in parallel and resolved as one.
